Graduate alumni named to 2019 class of IEEE Fellows

Nov. 29, 2018

Graduate alumni Jill Boyce, Minerva Yeung and Lin Zhong have been named Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a distinction that honors "extraordinary accomplishments" across a range of fields in engineering.

Jill Boyce earned her MSE in electrical engineering from Princeton in 1990. For nearly three decades, she has been a leader in the research and development of digital video compression and processing algorithms. She currently is chief media architect at Intel.

Boyce was recognized for "contributions to video coding."

Minerva Yeung earned her Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton in 1996. She studied information science and systems under the mentorship of Bede Liu, professor of electrical engineering, emeritus. Yeung went on to work as a researcher for IBM at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center. She then spent 10 years at Intel, where she became Director of Business and Media Products with the company's software group. She is now an entrepreneur in the technology sector.

Yeung was recognized for "leadership in multimedia signal processing."

Lin Zhong earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton in 2005. He currently holds a position as professor of electrical and computer engineering at Rice University, where he studies mobile systems, nanoelectronics and human-computer interactions. At Princeton, he was advised by Niraj K. Jha, professor of electrical engineering.

Zhong was recognized for "contributions to the development of energy-efficient driver circuits for organic light-emitting diodes."
