Preparing Photos for the EE Face Boards

These are the instructions for preparing individual photos for an existing faceboard. If you need to start a new faceboard, send a note to eeweb@princeton.edu and we will do the initial setup. To remove a photo from a faceboard, simply remove the file from the faceboard folder.
  • Please follow these instructions carefully. Failure to do so may cause photos to display incorrectly, or not at all.
  • The faceboard folders are in EERESOURCE\Web\Faces. Each faceboard is in a separate subfolder, e.g., the EE Class of 2008 faceboard photos are in a folder named class2008.
  • The faceboard webpages are at https://www.ee.princeton.edu/guide/Faces.

1. Open the photo in photoshop, then
  1. Select the Crop tool
  2. Click the Clear button
  3. Type in the width and height
    (Resolution should be blank.)

(If you are working on a set of pictures, you will have to do these steps only once for the first picture.)

2. Drag the mouse diagonally across the entire photo, or across the part of it you want to crop to. After your first drag, you can adjust the size by dragging the corners, or move the whole frame around by pointing the mouse inside it and dragging.

Double-click when you have it the way you want it.

3. (Optional) Set the zoom scale to 100% to see the image the same size as it will appear on the web page.

4. In the File menu, select File Info...

5. Select Description in the left-hand panel, then:
  1. Enter the person's netid in the Author Title slot.
  2. Enter the person's name in the Description slot, just as it should appear on the web page under the photo.
  3. Click OK to save this info.

6. In the File menu, select Save As...

7. Navigate to the faceboard folder (the appropriate subfolder of EERESOURCE\Web\Faces), then:
  1. Select JPEG in the Format pull-down menu.
  2. Enter a filename, composed as follows:
    • Lastname,Firstname.jpg
    • An initial may be added after the Firstname.
    • No spaces in the filename. You may use underscores if you wish, to make the filename clearer to you.
  3. Click Save.
(The filename is not displayed on the web page, but it affects the order that photos are presented in. )

8. Set Quality to 5, then click OK to save the file.

9. Go to the faceboard web page and check that all is well. Click the person's name to verify that a window pops up with the correct information for this person.
